E-mail

If you have more than one e-mail account, catching up on mail is an exercise in up-the-tree, down-the-tree, up-the-tree, ...

You only get one signature, which is used for every account

If you receive an e-mail on one account, you can’t respond from it using another account

After trying to use IMAP with several providers, and having problems with folder copying, I’ve given up on IMAP  IMAP is working with Yahoo! personal and business mail, in 1.1.1

A random glitch allowed one of my e-mails to disappear entirely, without being recoverable on the iPhone

If you have a bunch of unread mail, you can't just blow down the list (using the up/down arrows in message view) to mark them all read. Rather, you have to wait for each one to get downloaded and rendered before the mail app will mark it read.

The interface

Um, Apple, can we have cut and paste?  Please?

In some apps, when you leave them and come back later, they forget what you were doing, like entering a URL in Safari

Autocomplete and I are itchin’ for a fist-fight.

With other phones, like the Sidekick, there’s an idle screen that always shows if you have new e-mails, IMs, SMSs, or other notifications.  The iPhone requires, on average, a click-slide-click just to find out that nobody loves you at the moment.

That keyboard!

My wife finds it completely unusable, and I find it to be an absolute distraction, especially after frequently hitting 20-30 wpm with the Sidekick keyboard, nearly without looking at it

No accented keys ... did you know "año" with a tilde over the n means "year", but "ano" without the tilde means anus? Gives "feliz cumpleanos" an entirely new meaning, eh?  Fixed in the 1.1.1 update: just hold the key down for a moment.

Web browsing

Tired of all that pinching about when surfing the web!

Some websites are starting to create iPhone-only views, kind of defeating the whole “desktop web in your pocket” feature ...

All that said, I’m keeping mine

(By the way, if you need to swap SIMs from one iPhone to another, here’s a 20-step guide I wrote up.)

While it’s not exactly the perfect device for my particular needs, I am sticking with it (and the Sidekick) for the time being ...
